Vacuum furnaces

PVA-LWT uses modern, high-performance vacuum furnaces of different size and arrangement. Principally two different types of vacuum heat-treatment furnaces can be distinguished:

  • MOV-furnaces:
MOV-furnaces are fully metal heated furnaces. This means that the heating insert is made of metals, normally tungsten or molybdenum. Main characteristic for this furnace type is a very pure high-vacuum atmosphere, which is nearly free of any carbon-hydrogens. This enables heat-treatment of very sensitive materials, such as refractory metals. MOV-furnaces are typically used for brazing and heat-treatment of tantalum, titanium, niobium and ceramic materials.

  • COV-furnaces:
The heating insert of a COV-furnace, consisting of the insulation and the heating elements, is made of graphite. These furnaces are generally equipped with a high-vacuum diffusion pumping unit. In contrast to MOV-furnaces the COV-furnaces are more robust but do not dispose of carbon-hydrogen free vacuum atmosphere. Therefore COV furnaces are generally used for hardening processes and brazing of copper alloys and stainless steels.

All furnaces at PVA-LWT are numerically controlled and fulfil highest requirements with regard to reproducibility of brazing processes and documentation of process data. As PVA-LWT is fully embedded in the PVA TePla group, we have short time access to spare parts and service technicians and thus can assure a maximum availability of our production furnaces.
